Old World Style Christmas Tree Inspiration

Hi friends! It’s the most wonderful time of the year! I love participating in the Christmas tree blog hop hosted by my friend Stephanie over at Casa Watkins Living.  (Click here to see what I did last year.) I think this year’s tree is my favorite yet! If you’re coming over from Roxanne at The Honeycomb Home, welcome and thanks for being here!

Old World Style Christmas Tree

When considering how to decorate our tree this year, I wanted to lean into the color scheme of our home and carry it through the tree trimmings.  If you follow along on Instagram, then you know that I first decided to paint some of our bright white globe ornaments a more muted khaki color. Then I stumbled upon these candle ornaments and was inspired to try an Old World style Christmas tree this year.

I purchased this gorgeous wrapping paper (unfortunately it didn’t arrive on time for this blog post). It plays so nicely with our living room decor and is unique and earth-toned, just how I like it. I wanted to add globe ornaments to the tree in a moody color from the wallpaper but I couldn’t find any large ones so I made my own. More on that tomorrow.

In addition to globe ornaments, I added gorgeous finial-shaped ornaments in a burnished orange color. But how amazing are the handmade craft paper snowflakes?! I love the scale and color of them. They are stunning and add a ton of visual interest to the tree.

To soften the trimmings and add an organic element, I searched for frayed-edge ribbon but the options I loved were so pricey that I decided to DIY the ribbon. I purchased two yards of gauze fabric, ripped it into strips and was able to achieve the look I was going for, for much less. I shared more about the process here. I used the same ribbon to decorate some wrapped presents under the tree.

To top the tree off I chose a gold angel tree topper. For a tree skirt, I used one of my favorite throw blankets. For presents, I used craft paper which will work nicely with the pretty wrapping paper I ordered and tied some of the DIY gauze ribbon around them.

I love this year’s Old World-style Christmas tree so much! The candle ornaments are LED and have a flicker setting. We actually really love the tree with the main lights off and the candle ornaments on flicker. It’s a nice, soft ambiance.

What do you think of the Old World style Christmas tree? I think it’s my favorite yet! Now, hop on over to Teri’s colorful, nostalgic tree! Big thanks to Stephanie for hosting this fun annual event!
