Hey friends! After finally finishing construction on the pool and pool house, I’m so excited to share the design direction for the game room, the space right off the pool sandwiched between the gym and the guest bedroom.

This room has great bones. It’s about 22×17 with vaulted ceilings and beams. Next month we are adding tongue and groove to the ceiling which will make it even more stunning. My goal for this space is to lean into moody, saturated color palette and layered patterns so it feels cozy, intentional, and fun for entertaining, watching movies, playing games, and hanging out after a swim, a moody game room.

Before I jump into the vision, let’s take a look back. This room is directy off the pool in a the free standing pool house that we built from the ground up last year. On either side is the gym and the guest bedroom and bathroom. It has vaulted ceilings and large glass slider doors out to the pool.

After drywall, we had ceiling beams installed.

We worked with DuraDecor and chose these beautiful LVP floors in the color Cliffside Tan and hung two large woven pendant lights in a dark brown from the center beam.

Blank Canvas → Cozy & Bold
Here is some of the inspiration I’ve pinned for this room:

In typical guy fashion, Mike couldn’t wait to get a huge TV for the room and once we got that, we needed media storage and a place to sit. We added a LoveSac sofa with the stealth tech, and it feels like a mini home theater already. Now it just needs the vibe to match. I went bold with the LoveSac sofa and chose a deep terracotta upholstery. It felt like a risk but this is the perfect space to have a little fun with so I went for it and love how it looks.

What’s Next
Next up, we’re having the carpenders come back to install tongue and groove on the ceiling between the beams. Then, I plan to color drench the room and paint the ceiling and walls in the same mid-tone green-gray so the feels enveloping and moody.
We’re still deciding exactly how we will use the space but so far we are loving the idea of a puzzle/game table, and entertaining the idea of poker table or a shuffleboard table along the long empty wall. We already have in place a dartboard and a ring toss game. We will probably wait until we use and live in the space more when the weather gets warmer before settling on what to add. Eventually, we’re planning a large built-in media wall around the TV for storage and display, but for now I found an affordable media console as a stand-in.
On that long wall I’m picturing a curated gallery display of art. An eclectic mix of vintage and reproduction art in large formats and mismatched frames so it feels more lived-in and less new build. I’m obsessed with this print and love the ode to swimming mixed with the vintage feel of this black and white print.
Stay tuned — this one’s going to be a fun transformation! 👊
