ONE ROOM CHALLENGE: WEEK 2

One Room Challenge: Modern Boho Bedroom

Last week I shared my plans to participate in the One Room Challenge, a biannual event hosted by Calling it Home in which a bunch of designers and bloggers redo one room in six weeks, blogging updates about it weekly. I decided to participate because I thought a deadline would force me to finish the upstairs guest room…we’ll see how that goes. Check out last week’s post to see the all before pics of the room and the plan to make this room into a modern boho bedroom oasis.

Wallpaper Update!

As of last week I couldn’t decide which color of the Aimee Wilder cactus wallpaper to use. We’re going with “desert” color in the middle, which is white and a tannish hue they call oatmeal. While I love this wallpaper in the green and pink, I decided to go more neutral since it’s such a busy print and we are doing all of the walls.  Well, most of the walls. We’re not doing the hallway or the wall with all of the windows because I would have needed an additional 3 rolls just for the window wall and so much of the paper would have been left unused. I’m hanging curtains so not much of the wallpaper will show anyway. I plan to paint match the oatmeal color in the wallpaper and paint the window wall and the hallway that color and hope for the best!

Painting Progress:

We’ve made some progress painting the trim. Remember the window wall before?

Here it is with the first coat of primer. We used valspar bonding primer, which is a good choice for painting over glossy wood. We did sand the wood a little before priming to ensure good adhesion nad coverage. Sooooo much better already! Look at my little buddy Twix helping me out!  You guys know from our dining and master bedroom makeovers that every single inch of trim and all of the doors in the #dalydigs are this wood that I like to call ugly orange. It must go.

Other Updates:

I’ve been thinking about light fixtures and I haven’t pulled the trigger on anything yet but I’m leaning toward modern + gold. Also, I remembered I have two accent pillows with Kantha detailing that I purchased from West Elm years ago and never used, so they’re finally finding a home in our guest room! So here’s a little bit of the vibe we have going on so far.

If you caught my Instagram story earlier this week then you know that I got a beautiful Kantha quilt from Etsy. Here she is in all of her glory!

Oh, and I have this double macrame shelf I’m hoping to incorporate.

What do you guys think so far?

Head over to see what the other One Room Challenge guest participants are up to this week!
