Our Small Farmhouse Mudroom Reveal

Happy New Year, friends! Today is the first reveal of our big renovation of the kitchen and the area off of the kitchen and we’re starting with the reveal of our farmhouse mudroom!

Remember the plan to convert this little office nook to a mudroom? Prior to our renovation, we had a small office nook immediately off of the side door entrance of our house. I decided to convert the area to a small mudroom entryway. Here’s a look at what it looked like before and after demo.

As you can see on the image above, we completely demolished the area, including the walls. We actually moved the exposed wall to the right, toward the window about 2 feet to create a little extra space on the other side for the pantry and wet bar (more on that later).

Here’s a look back at my farmhouse mudroom design plan from when I first introduced the project:

I wanted to define the mudroom area with hexagon tile, panel the walls, add built-in locker storage, replace the side door with a dutch door and finish off the space with vintage furnishings and accessories. While all of that didn’t happen, I’m pretty happy with how the mudroom turned out!

We added the hexagon terra cotta-colored tile and it’s my favorite thing about the space. I couldn’t decide on the configuration I wanted for the built-in lockers so I skipped them for now and opted to put this entryway cabinet that I already had in the space. I can always add the built-in locker storage later as our family and storage needs grow. Time constraints didn’t allow for the wall paneling, but we can always add it down the road.

I styled the mudroom cabinet with artwork from our travels, a vase with simple greenery, and a catch-all tray for keys and mail. Beside the cabinet I used a vintage oil can as an umbrella holder.

The wood bench is a 100-year-old antique Chinese bench and I love the character it gives the space. The coat rack/hook is a vintage 1950s French mushroom peg coat rack I scored from Etsy.

The varying shades of terra cotta, peach and cream in the tile makes my heart go pitter patter. The tile is amazing and I love the rustic warmth it provides.

There you have it, our small farmhouse mudroom reveal! What do you guys think of the space?

Huge thank you to Roohi Photography for photographing the reveal!
