When my friend asked me to help her redesign her lanai and make it into a tropical oasis, I jumped at the opportunity. Craving an updated look to match the vibe of the rest of her home, we discussed her goals for the space. She wanted a blue and white color scheme with pops of color, an area for dining and lounging, and for it feel relaxing like you were on vacation in the islands. A West Indies inspired lanai was what she was going for.
A West Indies Inspired Lanai in the Making
Here’s a look at her space before. She was willing to replace all of her furniture, making it super fun for me š
I put together some ideas and developed this West Indies inspiredĀ mood board consisting of lots of blue and white patterns with pops of yellow and orange throughout, banana leaf print, wicker and terra cotta textures and lots of greenery.
And here’s her finished West Indies inspired lanai all styled out and photographed beautifully by my lovely friend Ashlee Hamon Photography.
West Indies Inspired Lanai Reveal
What a transition, huh? The lanai is long and narrow and was perfect for the zones she needed – one for dining and one for lounging. We brought in some outdoor rugs to define each space.
In Florida, outdoor ceiling fans are a must. We replaced the old ones with these tropical-inspired ones that have wicker blades.
This awesome vintage wicker West Indies chaise lounge was the only piece of existing furnitureĀ she had before starting the project and provided inspiration for the rest of the space. It’s an awesome piece!
The yellow wicker accent chairs definitely make a bold, bright statement. I love how they tie in with the West Indies art and provide a pop of color in the space.
The turtle float was a fun addition after we settled on the design plan. His name is Kona! š
This wall behind the dining table was begging for art and IĀ was thrilled when my friend sent me an image of this poster she found on Amazon! It is perfect in every way.Ā
There you have it! A bright, tropical, West Indies-inspired lanai. And becauseĀ I love a little side-by-side before and after action, here ya go.
There ya have it! I was so happy and honored to help my friend Jessica turn her lanai into a tropical oasis and thrilled everyone is happy with the end result! I’d love feedback, what do you think?
