Shiloh’s Farmhouse Big Girl Room Reveal

A while back I shared the plan to convert Shiloh’s nursery to a big girl room. It’s been bittersweet! It seems like not too long ago we were just finishing her nursery. I loved her green room, but it has been a joy to transform this space into a room that is more fitting for her and to get her involved in the process. Shiloh has grown into a girlie girl who loves all things pink and purple and bunnies. So, along with her big girl bed, we let her choose a new paint color. I shared the paint selection process on Instagram. I pre-selected several muted tones in the pink and purple family for her to choose from and she picked a winner.

The new color gives the room a whole new vibe. We kept the wallpaper – still love it! – but had the green wall paneling, trim, and doors painted a dusty, pinky-purple color called Dressy Rose.

Besides trading the crib for a bed, selling the glider, and updating some accessories, the furniture and decor stayed mostly the same, it just feels so different. On her dresser, I added a large vase with flowers and the cutest mushroom decor.

Instead of a toddler or twin bed, we went straight to a queen. The main reason is I don’t want to change it again in the future. She is a wild sleeper and she was outgrowing her crib. I didn’t want a twin to feel too small and I wanted a regular-sized bed in case overflow visitors ever needed to use her room. Her room isn’t huge but most of her toys live in the playroom so that was a factor as well. I am so in love with her new green upholstered scallop bed. I love that we kept a bit of green in her room and it ties in with the wallpaper perfectly.

Once we had the wall color and bed selected, I set off to choose the bedding. This was one of my favorite parts of the process. The pink-striped sheets complement the wallpaper and add a touch of feminine texture with the ruffle. The brown floral kantha quilt picks up on the brown tones in the wallpaper and grounds all the pink in her bedding. I’m not a huge fan of duvets so I chose a fluffy, soft pink comforter and shams. I love how it all turned out.

I was looking for a larger lamp for her bedside table and fell in love with this bunny lamp. She is obsessed with bunnies so it’s perfect. The original shade was stark white so I DIY’d a fabric pleated lampshade to add some charm.

The new black windows really pop against the paint. We chose to keep all of the trim, doors, and millwork Dressy Rose.

Shiloh is doing so great with the transition to her big girl bed. She fell off a couple of times in her sleep but she seems to be getting her bearings now.
