The First Look at Our Baby Boy’s Nursery

Creating a space for our baby boy has been such a joy, and I’m thrilled to share a first look at his nursery design plan with you all! If you’ve followed along on Instagram, you know that our journey to this point has been full of emotion and gratitude. This space feels extra special and sentimental.

The Space

We’re converting our guest bedroom into the nursery. The room is a generous size, has a wall of windows, an en-suite bathroom and walk-in closet. We have a little bit of prep work to do. The first thing I did was hire the closet company to build out the walk-in closet. currently it has a few sad wire shelves but I need to make this closet efficient with more shelving, drawers and additional hanging space, similar to what they did in my small closet in our primary bedroom. I’m also working on getting a drywall contractor to skim the walls. The room has textured walls and the wallpaper I selected has a lighter background and a stripe pattern, so I think skimming is best in this case.

The Design Plan

Speaking of wallpaper…let’s take a look at the mood board, shall we?

I fell in love with this striped wallpaper because it strikes the perfect balance of timeless and masculine—a backdrop that will grow with him well into his teenage years. I love the clay colored bold stripe mixed with the more playful, thinner stripes.

The nursery design includes a subtle nod to a jockey theme, but I’m keeping it understated. I want the space to feel classic and warm without being overly thematic. A large green scalloped rug will ground the room, adding texture and a cozy feel. For the crib, we’re bringing back Shiloh’s gold crib from when she was a baby. I love the idea of reusing this sentimental piece for her little brother.

One of the splurge-worthy items I’m hoping to include is an antique English pine dresser. This piece will tie in beautifully with the heirloom feel of the space and complement my dream antique pine hutch we have in the dining room.

For the seating area, I’ve decided on a La-Z-Boy recliner instead of a traditional glider, thanks to a trusted friend who insists I have to have it. I was hesitant at first, but La-Z-Boy has come a long way, and I’m prioritizing comfort—especially for those late-nights and contact naps.

To complete the space, I’m thinking a gold mirror (how pretty is that shape?), an adorable iron lamp with a pleated shade, and equestrian-inspired art. These elements bring warmth and character to the room, making it a space that feels both functional and beautiful.

I’m so excited to see this vision come to life and to share the progress with you all as we go. This nursery holds so much meaning for our family, and I can’t wait for our baby boy to grow up in this special space. Stay tuned for updates as we bring the design to fruition!
