2018 Project List

A new year, a new list of projects for the Daly Digs! While this list may prove to be a little optimistic a girl can dream, right? I wanted to share our 2018 project list to give you insight into what you can expect to see on the blog and what we’re looking forward to doing around the house.

But first, here’s a quick recap of the major projects we completed in 2017.

2017 Projects

-Last year we made a lot of progress on the exterior of the house.  We painted the outside of the house (ourselves!) and got a shiny new metal roof, which was a giant leap forward in the home reno direction.

-We completed the dining room.

-We finished our modern boho guest bedroom as part of the One Room Challenge. I had a little fun with this project and did the whole room in a cactus print wallpaper. I was thrilled to have the project featured on Design Sponge. 🙂

-TV Built-in project. The built-ins were a project I’d prefer not to reminisce about but they’re done and it’s all in the past now.ship-lap built in

-We completed master bedroom 1.0. and 2.0. We “finished” the master when we first moved in, but as you probably know, I ended up doing an overhaul in the room and completely changed it, hence version 2.0. It was officially finished in 2017 but I am sharing the reveal this week!! Stay tuned. Here’s a sneak peek until then!

2018 Project List

Alright 2018, let’s do this! Here’s my very optimistic 2018 project list and what you can hopefully expect to see on the blog!

Living Room + Fireplace + Stair Railing. Besides new flooring, the built-in and painting the fireplace black, the living room has been given very little attention since moving in. The black fireplace is too dark so I want to repaint it white. Hah, what can I say. Sometimes you just don’t know until you see it. This is a very old photo of what the main living area looked like when we moved in. A lot has changed but we still have a long way to go. I also need to talk hubby into removing the small pony wall that surrounds the living. Very retro, I know.

Now, about the railings. We removed all of these railings when we had the new floors put in upstairs. We’ve been living for an embarrassing amount of time without railings (in our defense, we don’t go up there much) but now it’s time to get that squared away. After learning my dream iron railing is waaaay out of our budget, we’re going with our second choice, cable railing. I’m also super excited to replace those two ceiling fans with some large-scale light fixtures!

Here’s a living room inspiration image (see more on my living room Pinterest board). We have two focal points in the room (fireplace and TV) so I want two sofa’s, one facing each, a pair of accent chairs and low seating in front of the fireplace. A day bed perhaps? Or upholstered bench or poufs. I’m not sure yet but we have a lot of space to work with.

Upstairs Loft. The upstairs loft area has been a landing ground for msc furniture and crates of random props (all my fault) but it’s time to get this space squared away. Again, a very old photo but you can see the room is pretty big and has a second fireplace. We’ve updated the floors and painted a lot since.

My Master Closet. I’m pretty lucky when it comes to my closet. It’s very big but it’s a hot mess and has that wire shelving that every basic closet has. I have big ideas for that space including built-in bookshelves for shoe storage, drawers, cubbies and maybe an island in the center. I have a closet Pinterest board, check it out. 🙂

Nursery. No, I’m not pregnant. Not yet anyway. A baby is in the plans for this year and little Baby Daly will need a cozy nook in the house. Therein lies the problem. Our house is a 3 bedroom and the master is on the bottom floor with the 2 other rooms upstairs. So where the heck do I put a nursery? Luckily, we have a large laundry room off of the master so I’m thinking we’ll just make it into a small nursery until the baby is big enough to go upstairs. Not perfect, but I like it a heck of a lot better than giving up my small bedroom sized closet so it is what it is. 😉 I have already started a Pinterest board for nursery ideas, be sure to follow along. Did you know I designed a nursery last year? It turned out so cute and is very much in line with my personal style. Here’s a sneak peek – it’s being featured soon, so I’ve had to hold out on blogging it. 😉

Detached garage with mother-in-law suite. This is a huge one! We are under contract for an acre of land next to ours. That means more room to expand our footprint and add a garage – our house doesn’t have one. We are going to build a detached garage with a mother-in-law suite apartment and my mother-in-law and sister-in-law are going to live there. More on that later but we’ve already worked with an architect and have a great first draft of the plans.

Back Patio. Since we don’t have a garage yet, our back patio has been acting as hubby’s workshop and tool storage. That’s all changing reallllyyyy soon (YAY!) so I’ll be able to make the back patio into a cute little area for entertaining and relaxing. Here’s a very rough, beginning of a mood board to show you the direction I’m headed for that space! Think vintage wicker, an industrial, farmhouse dining table, a greenery wall installation of some sort, and cozy lounge area.

Landscaping. While we did a ton of work on the exterior of our house last year, landscaping was not something we got around to. So, this year I’m really looking forward to finishing off the outside of the house with landscaping. And gutters. Ugh. I hate spending money on functional things that are not pretty.

Kitchen. ????. I’m gonna go ahead and put the kitchen on the list for 2018 for the sake of putting what I want out into the universe and hoping I’ll get it. But let’s just say this is extremely optimistic. The kitchen in our house is horrible! Functional, mostly, but ATROCIOUS. Check out my kitchen Pinterest board but I’m thinking mushroom colored cabinets, open shelving instead of upper cabinets, quartz countertops and a white herringbone tile backsplash.

There ya have it. My very optimistic 2018 project list for the Digs. Which are you most excited about? Do you have any of your own project planned?
