Six Tips for Hosting a Fall Dinner Party

Fall has officially arrived! In Florida, that means it’s still summer. The struggle is real. But with cooler evenings on the horizon (I’m hopeful) and the holiday season upon us, this time of year is perfect for entertaining. Today I’m serving up some inspiration for hosting a fall dinner party that merges elements of summer with those of fall for the perfect dinner party to celebrate the new season.
This project has been featured over on The Sweetest Occasion, a great entertaining blog to follow! Thank you, Cyd for featuring our shoot!

Tips for Hosting a Fall Dinner Party

1. Take it outside!

The beginning of fall is the perfect time to take your gathering outside and enjoy dinner in the crisp air. Backyard entertaining doesn’t have to be boring. Our use of a soft linen runner and gold flatware elevate this gathering, proving that a backyard dinner party can be elegant.

2. Serve a garden-to-table inspired menu.

A garden-to-table dinner is a great way to provide an ode to fall by featuring autumn hues and ingredients. The warm tones and autumn vegetables suggest fall while served alongside bright white dinnerware quintessential of a summer soiree, the perfect way to celebrate the end of summer and beginning of fall.

3. Serve courses family style.

For a relaxed, easygoing vibe serve the meal family style in which dinner offerings are placed on the table in serving dishes. Consider your serving dishes carefully, ensuring the fit the scheme of the tablescape. Serve food directly from the cookware when possible, like we did with the Le Creuset covered casserole dish. It’s beautiful and complements the white dinnerware nicely.

4. Don’t forget dessert!

Choose a dessert that can be prepared the night before. One less thing you don’t have to worry about on the day of. These nectarine galettes are perfect!

5. Spice up your florals…literally!

No tablescape is complete without a floral arrangement, but don’t be afraid to think outside the box when it comes to flowers as well as the vessel. For our garden-to-table themed dinner party, we used white hydrangea and marigolds mixed with purple cabbage, rosemary sprigs, blackberries and olive branches to fit the foodie, garden-to-table theme of the dinner. We used a beautiful white Le Creuset utensil crock as a vase.

6. Serve a signature cocktail.

A signature cocktail is a great idea for any party, and our fall dinner party is no exception. We whipped up some marigold cocktails which tied in with the marigolds in the floral arrangements.
