How to Reglaze A Bathtub and Tile Surround

How to Reglaze A Bathtub and Tile Surround

When we kicked off the nursery bathroom makeover, I mentioned we chose to reglaze the bathtub and tile surround to save time and money, especially since it was all in good shape, just ugly. The tile was discolored due to water stains and the tub was a dark biscuit color. Bleh. You guys were so interested in this project so I’m going to share what I can. We outsourced the work and we were not involved in every step, so keep that in mind. I don’t have any pictures of the application process, unfortunately.

New Dining Room Art and the Runners Up

New Dining Room Art and the Runners Up

I recently shared our plans to refresh the dining room and I’m happy to report things are happening. I received a few key elements of the new design including the rug, chairs and the new dining room art. I worked with Great Big Canvas for the art and it’s stunning! It’s a contemporary impressionist painting of a countryside scene with trees and a river by Tim O’Toole.

Great Big Canvas offers thousands of great works of art in several mediums, sizes and framing options. It was a challenge to choose one piece because I had so many favorites. Here are some of my other favorites:1. Still Life w/Milk Jug & Fruit / 2. Sienna / 3. October Farm II / 4. Riverbank / 5. Wine Country View / 6. The Card Players / 7. The Railway Cutting / 8. The Promise 4 / 9. Veteran in a Field

The color palette of the dining room rug helped drive the selection of the art. I love the muted earthy tones in the rug and I think the new dining room art piece compliments it perfectly.… Read more

Fall Home Decor and How I Decorated Our House

Fall Home Decor and How I Decorated Our House

Fall is my favorite! The crisp weather, terra-cotta and earthy hues, pumpkin everything, I live for it. I thrive in fall and our home accepts fall decor so well because it’s basically my decor palate year-round. I didn’t get too wild with fall home decor this year, but I did add a few touches around the house and I thought I’d share.

Fall Home Decor

I always start with seasonal decor on the porch. Our home has a lovely wrap-around porch and I love to spruce it up and decorate the entry stoops. For our main entry, I used corn husks attached to the posts framing our front door and added a few mums, pumpkins and fall wreaths from Target a few years ago. In October I put the skeletons out and simply remove them after Halloween.

For our side door, I layered the cutest “hope you brought wine” doormat over a  buffalo check indoor/outdoor rug. I love to decorate for fall with heirloom pumpkins. Little did I know my chickens would enjoy them for a snack!… Read more

How to Master the Kitchen Counter Oil Tray

How to Master the Kitchen Counter Oil Tray

There is one thing every kitchen needs and that is a kitchen counter oil tray to corral cooking oil, utensils, butter and other frequently used items for easy access. Organizing all of these items on a tray contains the clutter and establishes order. My butter bell and kitchen counter oil tray have generated a lot of interest so I am sharing tips for mastering your own tray.

how to master the kitchen oil tray

My kitchen counter oil tray includes a utensil crock with utensils, a pepper grinder, a butter bell, a small marble bowl for salt and an oil dispenser we brought home from a glass-blowing village in France, all of which are kept on a cake stand that serves as a catchall tray. Other things you may want to add include a mortar, an herb plant, garlic, vinegar, tasting spoons, flowers or anything that you use often while cooking.

Roundup: Lidded Bathroom Wastebaskets

Roundup: Lidded Bathroom Wastebaskets

When it comes to bathroom accessories, the wastebasket may be the least exciting. It’s a necessary evil though. I’m a fan of lidded bathroom wastebaskets, especially in a guest or powder bath. It keeps things looking tidy and clean. The idea of hiding trash under a lid is much more appealing than seeing the trash and the plastic bag liner in an open wastebasket.

In our recent powder room remodel I used a chrome lidded bathroom wastebasket to tie in with the other chrome bathroom accessories, #2 below. I thought I’d round up some other lidded bathroom wastebaskets and encourage you to get a cute lidded wastebasket if you don’t already have one.

Sherwin Williams Color of the Year…I Die!!

Sherwin Williams Color of the Year…I Die!!

Sherwin Williams announced it’s 2019 Color of the Year and I’m in love with it! It’s called Cavern Clay and it’s a saturated, earthy terracotta tone and is one of my favorites!

“Ancient, yet fully alive. Bohemian, yet totally refined.”

Via

I love what Sarah over at Room For Tuesday did here. She painted an accent wall in her office and placed a styled console table against it. I love the way the greenery looks against the Cavern Clay wall. The otherwise neutral decor helps balance the complexity of the accent wall and it just works.

Via

If this color scares you a bit, think about incorporating it as an accent color. I love the idea of painting the back of built-in shelves, the wall above a wainscoting detail, the ceiling of a bedroom or office or a front door or french door.
Painting the back of a kitchen island is another great way to incorporate a bold color such as Cavern Clay.
