Master Bedroom Refresh

Master Bedroom Refresh

Giving our Master a Facelift

Hiya, friends! So, listen. I’ve dropped a couple of hints about it and now it’s time to unveil the plan for my master bedroom refresh!! If you’ve been following along on the blog for a while then you know we blogged the reveal earlier this year and you may think it’s a little soon to be changing things up but let me explain because there are a few reasons why. First, to put it simply, I’m over it. Even though I shared the reveal with you all in January, the bedroom doesn’t look all that different from the master in our old home. Most of the furniture is the same and heck, we even painted the walls a similar color as our old master. Second, as other rooms here in the Daly Digs begin to take shape and the overall style and decor identity for the Daly Digs comes to fruition, I’m not sure our existing master bedroom fits in. I tend to love and have a lot of art and accents in warm earthy tones and I am just not feeling the bright, cool tones in the master any longer.… Read more

Copper Home Decor Roundup

Copper Home Decor Roundup

For the Love of Copper!

Have you guys spotted all the copper home decor gracing the aisles of your fave stores lately? I see copper everywhere and I while I’m not going gaga for copper, there are a few pieces I could totally see working into my home. According to Domain, copper would be out in 2017 but House Beautiful said that according to 2016 Pinterest analysis, copper would stick around a little while longer. I don’t think we should concern ourselves too much with what’s trending and instead decorate with what we love. If you happen to love copper, go for it!

Now excuse me while I dream about displaying some pretty shiny copper cookware on the open shelving in my new kitchen…except I don’t have open shelving…nor a new kitchen. Someday, folks. Someday.

Custom Frames Online Made Easy

Custom Frames Online Made Easy

Custom Frames Online

I recently purchased my first custom frame online from Frames By Mail. I did this mostly out of convenience since I was running low on time for my One Room Challenge guest bedroom reveal, for which I purchased this awesome buffalo print. I needed a frame for that guy and decided to buy one online rather than have it custom framed, especially since I didn’t want or need an elaborate decorative frame. I stumbled upon Frames by Mail and I found it to be such an easy and enjoyable experience I wanted to tell you guys about it.

custom frames online

The interface is super user-friendly. You start by choosing your frame from a wide variety of options. They have everything from simple wood frames to elaborate ornate frames.  Once you select your frame, it takes you to a new webpage where you can view your frame. The image of your frame changes to reflect your selections and features such as your art size and your matting size and colors. You can also choose from a few different backing and plexiglass options including non-glare plexi, an option I took advantage of since my art would be opposite a window in my guest room. … Read more

Black Outdoor Farmhouse Lights

Black Outdoor Farmhouse Lights

15 Black Outdoor Farmhouse Lights

Ever since we finished the guest room, we’ve been focusing most of our attention on the exterior of the Daly Digs. You guys may have seen on my InstaStory that we painted the exterior of our house (ourselves!), had a new roof installed (it’s finally done!) and purchased a few new accents for the porch. We still have to finish painting the bottom of the house including the front door, but we’re moving along and I’ve been on the hunt for some black outdoor farmhouse lights to replace the miserably sad ones we removed. I thought I’d round up some of my favorite black outdoor farmhouse lights I stumbled upon during my search. I’m pretty sure we’ve decided on which ones we’re going with, but as always I plan to make you wait until the exterior reveal. 🙂

Custom Shiplap Built-In Project Update

Custom Shiplap Built-In Project Update

Shiplap Built-In Progress

It’s been a hot minute since I gave an update on our shiplap built-in entertainment center project and that’s mostly because our contractors are taking foooreeevvveerrrr. We hired them for the project five months ago and progress has been super duper slow. But rather than complain about the woodworkers that we’ll never hire again, let’s talk about the positives!

Here’s the first post about the shiplap built-in if you’d like to refresh your memory and see our inspiration for the project. We decided to use this awesome shiplap built-in by Studio McGee as inspiration for our build. I love the shiplap, the floating cabinet and the rustic shelving against the white. built-in entertainment center

The first step was for the woodworkers to frame out the built-in. Part of our wall was deeper than the other side so we had to frame it out so that the back wall would be flush. Then we had to have an electrician come out and move the electrical outlets out. We also had the electrician pre-wire for a mounted TV by adding HDMI cables and an outlet directly in the center of the built-in so we could conceal all of the wires.… Read more

Modern Boho Guest Room REVEAL: One Room Challenge Week 6

Modern Boho Guest Room REVEAL: One Room Challenge Week 6

Guest Room Reveal!

You guys, I’m so flippin’ excited to share the BIG REVEAL of our modern boho guest bedroom that we’ve been working on over the last several weeks as part of the One Room Challenge. We had some stagnant weeks in the middle due to some other projects that required our attention (and there may have been a weekend away by the pool that didn’t help). I was not quite sure we’d make it but that’s all history now because WE DID IT! It wasn’t without blood, sweat and tears but we. did. it.

Let’s jump in, shall we? But first, in case you’re just joining us and haven’t been following along with our makeover, here’s a flashback of what the room looked like before. And here it is now!!

Overall, I wanted the room to feel peaceful and relaxing yet, I wanted to make a bold statement without going too over the top, and the wallpaper is perfect for what I was going for. I kept the baseline color palette neutral and added pops of color in the accessories, like the throw blanket, the rug and the pillows. … Read more

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE WEEK 5! CLOSE, YET SO FAR!

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE WEEK 5! CLOSE, YET SO FAR!

One Week Until the REVEAL!

I can’t believe it’s week 5 of the One Room Challenge! If you remember from last week’s post, the wallpaper is up, but we still had plenty to do, most of which I’m happy to say we accomplished! WHEW! We installed the baseboards, caulked and painted the baseboards, finished painting the walls that are not getting wallpapered, changed out the electrical receptacles and installed new door hardware. Here’s a shot of the mess, I mean the room, mid-baseboard install. And after with the new outlets, which have USB ports which I think is a great feature! And finally, the baseboard work was complete and it was time to start cleaning the floors and start the FUN STUFF! Like installing lighting! Originally I planned to go with modern fixtures in brass but I decided since we were doing black door hardware (keeping consistent with the rest of the house) that I would stick to a simpler palette in here since we all know the wallpaper is stealing the show. I don’t want it to feel too overwhelming and busy with many different finishes, especially since some of my accessories are colorful.… Read more

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE WEEK 4: WALLPAPER IS UP!

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE WEEK 4: WALLPAPER IS UP!

Week 4 One Room Challenge Update!

I can’t believe it’s week 4 of the One Room Challenge! Time is flying and we have just one more update before the reveal in 2 WEEKS! This week, it’s all about the cactus wallpaper!

Progress

Our ORC progress report grade for this week is a C-. Our minor stall in progress from last week continued into this week since we were distracted with painting the 2nd story exterior of our house! Oye vey. That project was a bit more time consuming and labor intensive than we anticipated so our to-do list for the guest bedroom did not get done (more on the exterior later). The plan was to have the baseboards and painting done and all the electrical receptacles replaced, to make way for the wallpaper installation. We did not get the baseboards in yet but we opted to go ahead and have our cactus wallpaper installed, so the WALLPAPER IS UP folks! Normally you would install baseboards and any trim before wallpaper so that the wallpaper hanger can cut directly along the top edge of the baseboard.… Read more

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE WEEK 3: MODERN BOHO GUEST BEDROOM

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE WEEK 3: MODERN BOHO GUEST BEDROOM

One Room Challenge: Modern Boho Guest Bedroom

It’s week 3 of the One Room Challenge! I can’t believe it! We’re in the middle of our modern boho guest bedroom makeover but let me start by saying we did not get all of the to-do list done since our last update. Wah wah. We had to push the wallpaper install a week because we didn’t install the baseboards yet. Sometimes life just happens, #amiright?

Painting is almost Done!

We’re pretty much done with all of the trim and door painting so here’s a few updated progress pics.
This is the small hallway coming into the room, the bathroom is on the left and the walk-in closet is on the right. So much better, right? Above you can see the progress on the window trim and that door is to another small closet in the room. Ahhhhh brightness!
Here is the huge wall of windows with all of the trim painted. We’re using Sherwin Williams Alabaster, which is the shade of white we’re carrying throughout the rest of the house. If you remember from my last post,  we’re not wallpapering this wall of windows because of how many more rolls we’d need, and the amount that would be wasted after cutting it for the windows.  … Read more

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE: WEEK 2

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE: WEEK 2

One Room Challenge: Modern Boho Bedroom

Last week I shared my plans to participate in the One Room Challenge, a biannual event hosted by Calling it Home in which a bunch of designers and bloggers redo one room in six weeks, blogging updates about it weekly. I decided to participate because I thought a deadline would force me to finish the upstairs guest room…we’ll see how that goes. Check out last week’s post to see the all before pics of the room and the plan to make this room into a modern boho bedroom oasis.

Wallpaper Update!

As of last week I couldn’t decide which color of the Aimee Wilder cactus wallpaper to use. We’re going with “desert” color in the middle, which is white and a tannish hue they call oatmeal. While I love this wallpaper in the green and pink, I decided to go more neutral since it’s such a busy print and we are doing all of the walls.  Well, most of the walls. We’re not doing the hallway or the wall with all of the windows because I would have needed an additional 3 rolls just for the window wall and so much of the paper would have been left unused.… Read more
